Writer's Block: 2008 Accomplishment
My biggest accomplishment for 2008 so far has been cutting down my drinking habits to an almost non-existent level (i.e. 2 or 3 glasses of wine one night a week). Since doing this I feel healthier, and more in control of my life and have even started riding a bike again for the first time in 15 years. I no longer feel like I am drifting through life and have started planning my future with both short and long term goals that will improve my health mentally and physically. The only down side is that it makes it really difficult to spend time with my friends, not because they drink a lot necessarilly, but more because my habits when around them lead me to drink. Still I have a plan for that. If I can meet my friends outside of their homes where we engage in some form of entertatinment or activity where I have something else to do it theoretically should curtail the drinking somewhat. Now it is just a matter of convincing them to go out and meet up. Current Mood: content | | Sunday, November 4th, 2007 | | 11:15 am |
Just a question here
Who was the lovely person who put beer in front of me after I'd gone inside to make an attempt to sober up? Not that I am complaining mind you but it is now 11.15 and I am on the info desk at work and I am still drunk!!! Thanks very much to Perrin and Nicole for a lovely evening a fun time was had by... ...well at least by me. Current Mood: groggy | | Monday, January 1st, 2007 | | 11:50 pm |
new years resolutions
Right now i don't like me very much so it is time to change a few things 1. No more drinking for a while!!! perhaps a very long while 2. Keep my nose out of other peoples lives no matter how much i want to be helpful 3. Get some exercise 4. Cut down on my nicotine habit 5. Join the green party 6. Get a hobby 7. Try out this monogamy thing 8. Get my life and brain sorted out and quit the self destructive behaviour Hopefully doing all these things will make me a better and more pleasant person to be around and will lead to much less collateral damage to others. I love you all very much but i may need some alone time for a while to get my shit together Happy new Year Current Mood: RemorsefulCurrent Music: Play School | | Tuesday, October 24th, 2006 | | 7:44 pm |
Honours Results Are In
OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG! I got a FIRST Class Honours mark, woooooohooooo. I am currently feeling very chuffed with the world and will spend the day celebrating appropriately. HALLOWEEN Whilst the discussion and suggestions for invading my teenagers All Hallows party made at Guplors were very funny at the time, in the cold hard sober light of day the idea of having an upset and sulking teenager for any period of time fills me with dread. Especially if i was the cause of it and only had myself to blame. So Halloween Shennanigans are a no go at our house but i will probably be dropping into Guplor's party around ten- ten thirty-ish if all things go smoothly at our end. All round this has been a very good week Current Mood: ecstatic | | Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006 | | 1:20 pm |

AAAARGH
OK so i know i have been very quiet on the lj front but i was just trying to get back into the swing of this incredibly dull town. Anyhow i have had such a frustrating day that i need to vent, feel free to ignore. So i emailed my honours supervisor when we got abck at the start of feb and waited for a response to my request for a meeting....nothing. Fair enough i think, she is probably still in hol's. two weeks later i try again and waited another week before i decided that i would just get to work without her sage advice...cue Tuesday. So i go inot Uni and wait 15 minutes for the admin recep to finish her smoke and come back up to work. -When i ask when supervisor will be in recep girl looks uncomfortable and says "she left rather suddenly at the start of January to go work at USQ." It takes me 5 seconds to register what she has said and then my jaw starts to clench. "But she is supposed to be my supervisor" i say calmly to which recep chick respons " there is a seminar tomorrow and the new honours organiser will be able to allocate you someone then". Cool Ok i can deal with that, however what really ticks me off is that they are supposed to keep me informed of stuff, the fact that my 'ex'supervisor didn't tell me she was leaving was bad enough but that the admin staff hadn't bothered either really got on my goat. Fine i think and ask for the keys to the resource room, only to find that they have turneed it into a tea room and taken all the articles and anth books away never to return, "but feel free to use it to work in" says recep. So I did and will continue to do so, taking up all the room on the (only) table in the room with my crap and generally making a nuisance of myself. It seemed to work really well with two of the lecturing staff apologising for disturbing me when they came in to microwave their lunch and then sheepishly taking it away to eat in their offices. I say good!, i am sick of being nice to the people at this Uni only to have them shaft me at every turn. I am not a demanding person, i don't ask for much only to get some support in what i have been told over and over again is supposed to be the hardest year of my academic life. Needless to say when i got home in the afternoon i was seething, it is not often that i am so angry that i want to throw things violently, but today i reached my threshold. I have 4 months, 17,000 words to write and i am going to damn well make the staff earn their pay. Sizzler a no go
Sadly it looks like Sizzler is no longer on the cards for the squids birthday, however all those interested in coming out to Bethania for the afternoon (on the same day) are more than welcome byo drinks but all food provided by host. I completely understand if it's too much hassle and those of you who were up for the Sizzler thing don't want to come, i apologise most profusely but it is once again one of these things which i have to acquiese (is that how you spell it?)to for the sake of keeping the peace. No Job But Long Christmas Break
ok so i didn't get the job but the interview experience was interesting and educational. Of course the plus side to this is long xmas break (yay). Lovely daughter bought a meningal virus into the house at the start of August and while the rest of the family seems to be able to shrug it off i am three months in and counting. Went to doctor (again) and he finally decided that drugs were in order, thank god, now i just have to stay out of sunlight for the next week til there finished and do nothing, hmmm that won't be too difficult. In other news the secretary job is going well though because of the sick am now only doing one night a week, will be back to three soon i hope. In other news the wee one has been invited to try out for the GymSA elite squad connected t the institute of sport. Sessions start Tuesday and we will know in 2 to three weeks from today (I think) we are all very proud though our wallets are groaning a little. Teenager has become typically teenagerish, it's great, i wish i knew as much about the world, still i'm sure i must have a decade or so ago, i should probably access that part of my brain again. I am sure harmony will win out in the end though and if not there is always the wooden chest and a gag. We will all be flying up on 14th Dec and probably leaving again around 24th January, will be out of action from the 21st to 26th as visiting family for christmas and will be going to sizzler on the 17th Dec for wee ones birthday for all those interested in attending (times come later). Aside from that no other plans have been made as yet so feel free to throw ideas at us from any direction otherwise it'll be clubs, booze, movies and parties, you know the usual stuff. i think the job interview went well and even if i don't get it it was a good experience. on another note had an interesting and amusing incident with the little one this evening. She said "out the back jack, out the front c*nt" We Said "squid please don't say that word" "what c*nt, why?" "because it's not a nice word to use it is very rude" "c*nt is rude, why what does it mean?" "ummm we are going out for a cigarette" "but what does c*nt mean, why won't you tell me?" "because we won't now don't say it again" "c*nt" "If you say that again i will smack your bottom" (Wandering off grinning said in a singy voice) "c*nty, c*nt c*nt c*nt" (10 sec staring pause)"I think we handled that rather poorly" still it made me smile kids are funny if only we could tell them ;) Current Mood: amusedCurrent Music: Deus eX | | Sunday, October 2nd, 2005 | | 9:50 pm |
bugs, boobs and banter
hi all and a very special hello to Tes so life has been very interesting recently, for those who don't know i am working in a "massage parlour" as a receptionist at the moment (and yes i really am a receptionist). The girls are great and i have only had to throw one client out in the last five weeks. Have made some great friends and one of them is a huge python, goodies pratchett fan and enjoys a bit of a drink (my kinda gal), she has been showing me round all the interesting places (ok place) to go that being the Crown and Anchor a punk gothy place with sas. Unfortunately for the last 8 weeks the house has been doing the rounds of the flu , the smallest has had it twice, teenager twice and i am currently on my third round. The girls are fine now and i am consulting with a doctor about the constant recurrence thing so should be all good in a week or so. the honours is a bit backlogged but as i have gone part time i still have 8 or 9 months so i am not panicking yet just focussing on getting well and making lists of necessarry reading. Finally i applied for a job at the SA Museum as Deputy Collections Manager of the Indigenous Collection ($47K) and have an interview on Wed. Special thanks to Deadkat who must have given me a fantastic reference i owe you scotch (or booze of choice), btw am yet to here from your possible employer. It is only a 6 month position which fits in nicely with my honours completion. It is just a filler job while the normal person takes research leave but the pay is good and it will look kickass on my CV so fingers crossed. FINALLY i can relax
ok so i have been completely slack with th lj thing, but i had to give away something or i wouldn't have beeen able to burp and scratch my bum at the same time. so with the semester winding down i have pretty much finished everything and am looking forward to three weeks sans kids for all those wonderful peole who got involved in the field work my gratitude is unabounding, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. have many plans for july, seeage of novaho's is first on the list followed by a 'drugged in' party, trips to Hahndorff, clubbing and a saints and sinners party at the end of the month to wrap up. Much consumption of alcohol to be expected, and for thhose interested go check out Happy High Herbs on the gold coast for they now have Absynthe tincture for mixing with vodka (so at least you don't have to try and stomach the 70% proof perno). Currently filled with great swathes of optimism and energy, life is good Current Mood: bouncy | | Wednesday, June 15th, 2005 | | 12:32 pm |

Why is time going so fast?
ok so another assignment down and one to go huzzah. think i'm coming down wth a cold (pooh). Has been interesting fortnight. Doing fieldwork have Role Playing Questionnaire if anyone is interested in doing it give me a hoy here and i'll email it to you and be greatly appreciative, all at the same time. How cool is this Adelaide Uni has a parapsychology department!, so i went and participated in one of their experiments, it was i ching. While i didn't do so good at the predicting of outcome it was plenty of fun and by the end i was throwing three of a kinds everywhere, and was heated up like a very hot thing. Of course as i was catching the train home straight after, my large amount of energy projection was attracting drunken old men to come and sit down and talk to me at great length. The most interesting of which was a lawyer who is working on the defence for the Snowtown (bodies in Barrels) case, he was funny and highly vigorous with his hand gestures and i think i got a little drunk from the fumes of Scotch wafting off his breath (ahhh Friday long lunches). Currently the little one is at a Gym sleepover and the bigger one and boy have challenged each other to a sleepless weekend competition. they made it through Friday night though the teenager nodded off for 15 minutes at 7 am, it now just has to be seen who can make it through tonight, though i think the boy will win cause the FA cup is on all night (Arsenal and Man United). We the adults will not be making it to BrisVegas over July Hol's but we're shipping the kids up so if anyone wants to see them ring and will organise stuff. Apart from that just looking forward to 2 weeks of not-Honours. Current Mood: busyCurrent Music: FF10 |
